lyrics
I started as a skeptic, doubting all that I heard
It fit with my aesthetic, my general type of mood
When you're on the outside, trying to look in
It all seems impossible, just hopeless clichés
I always thought I didn't have a chance
When you came the first time, I was not prepared
You had seen what could be while I was in the dark
I let you fly by when you put yourself on the line
You knew what you wanted but I couldn't say
Indecision spoiled our first chance
I always took for granted that I'd end up alone
Everything I'd had had a way of crumbling apart
What were the options, when no one understood?
Little did I know you had had the same thought
When I felt the first spark, it seemed it wasn't real
This was the second pass and the details had changed
But the timing was off and the risks were too high
So I let it slip away and squandered more time
I welcomed the thought but balked at the chance
And on the third time, the coincidences were strong
In the same neighborhood on the same weekend
I consulted with the oracle and tread carefully
When it finally clicked we wasted no more time
Without delay we stepped up to the chance
A comet only comes by every two or so years
We'd fallen in each others' orbit more than once
But we ricocheted and went on separate paths
Till we found a natural, stable trajectory
Celestial bodies seem so lonely in the void
Our gravitational pull was inevitable
